Before being filled-in to make way for development in Phnom Penh, Boeung Kak, more commonly known among the travelling community as Lakeside, was an iconic stop on the backpacker trail through Cambodia.
As well as being a vibrant hub during the day, the area especially came alive at night: the general hubbub of bars and restaurants on the shore, combined with the tranquility of the water as fishermen went about their business, created many an enduring image for all who saw it.
