Sitting Pretty on Top of Erg Chebbi

The grand sand dunes of Erg Chebbi tower over the Sahara and offer a perfect setting to take in the desert’s jaw-dropping scale.

Although the climb up the almost vertical slopes in unforgiving sand is tough, especially after a day trekking on a swaying camel, the views more than compensate: the Sahara stretches over the horizon in shades of red, yellow and orange to create one of Africa’s most stirring sights.

(Editor’s note: The writer captured this image during a road trip across Morocco. Read more about it here, here and here. The last part’s our least favourite but the first one’s really good; in fact, Wanderlust decided to publish it.)
