Snapshot in Time: Seville’s Metropol Parasol

Not without its controversy – mostly due to costs, delays and a divisive appearance – the Metropol Parasol is nevertheless one of Seville’s most striking structures and a powerful example of contemporary architecture.

Located in Mercado de la Encarnación, and indeed nicknamed Las Setas de la Encarnación (“Incarnation’s Mushrooms”) thanks to its distinct shape, the monument offers fine views over the city from anywhere along its six parasols and four levels, particularly late at night.

With Seville Cathedral and the majestic Alcazar royal palace within easy walking distance at the nearby Plaza del Triunfo, visitors can easily spend a day soaking up the heritage at some of the Andalucian capital’s most arresting attractions.
