Searching around most places reveals the stories beneath the tales beneath the myths. Truth based in fact and then mutated with a dose of narrative to frame the traditions, culture and heritage of a place. A Place in Other Places, if EitM’s tagline is anything to go by.
More often than not, these pieces of lore intrigue and charm. They reveal staggering imagination and prove that, as always, storytelling – as in, the act of telling, not showing – remains the prime way to give somewhere depth and perspective. When told right, lore gives an idea – sometimes just a glimpse – of the belief systems at play, thanks to the storytellers of that place and the tales they weave.
Perhaps lore teaches a valuable lesson. Always pay attention and take an interest, because something of note always lurks close at hand.
