Bodies of water tend to symbolise pretty well the idea of passing through. In the same way that one can rarely see beyond the ocean’s horizon, trying to peer beneath a lake’s surface tends to only intrigue the viewer. They take a deep breath, they glimpse the flourishing ecosystem, and they try to make sense of the scale of things, all before their lungs give out.

Either way, a lake tends to have some kind of lore or history attached to it, as these stories hopefully show.
