(Kind Of) Out the Way

It’s nice to escape the crowds. Nobody at EitM has such a rip-roaring ego that other tourists or holidaymakers become an annoyance and somehow get in the way of a good trip. A link, though, does seem to exist between a person’s distance from other outsiders and the type of bullshit this person encounters. And supplies, let’s be honest.

Bullshit is as bullshit does. Nobody can ever escape it. But we found in these places room to breathe and an escape from the social anxieties of being around many people. And in so doing, we had the chance to really absorb and appreciate the host place, and most of the time, they left an indelible (favourable) mark.

None of these places is totally obscure, by the way. At worst, you might need a bit of planning to reach them, and it might involve some lengthy journeys. But we found that the payoff was worth it, and a lot of the locations don’t seem to crop up very often on Instagram, which is a bonus.

The greatest of all these places is, of course, Pontian Kechil in Malaysia.
